about

The 45th release on microCastle welcomes Navar & Mononoid to the label for the debut of their collaborative project. Dutch artist Navar returns to the Canadian imprint following his 'Moments In Life EP' from November of 2014. As one of the underground's most creative talents Navar has shaped a sound all his own, full of soulful qualities and organic design. Appearances on Guy J's Lost & Found Records coupled with a sparse release schedule has only made the love for his sound stronger. Meanwhile Mononoid, also hailing from the Netherlands are making their much anticipated label debut. First conceptualized in 2011, Andy Godderis and Igor Shumlyanskiy make up the Mononoid production duo. A string of releases on Traum got their career off to a great start and their modern take on techno has since been showcased by Einmusika, Lost & Found and Sisyphon. Much like Navar, Mononoid have been praised for their creative vision and the fusion of these three intuitive minds was a project that had to be put into motion. Some winter months locked away in the studio has resulted in the much anticipated three track EP entitled 'Dreambox', alongside a remix from YokoO of Musik Gewinnt Freunde and All Day I Dream.

The release begins with 'Ad Litem', which finds the trio crafting a tough yet soulful techno creation. Led by a mystical motif and broken percussion, it's rugged grooves and mysterious atmospheres take you on a thought provoking journey. There's a magical ending to the subversive moods and one which is worth exploring many times over; in the words of the guys "Ad Litem was a cosmic attraction between all of us, a unique energy stream with spiritual undertones, but for all of its energies there was something very profound waiting at the end; it was our carnival train ride to the guardians of Ad Litem."

The lone interpretation of 'Ad Litem' is provided by YokoO who is making a welcome first appearance on the label. The French born artist, long term Australian resident, now calls Berlin, Germany home where his inspiration has flourished. YokoO's unique approach to house music has touched the hearts of electronic music fans all over the world, and filled his discography with emotive creations on All Day I Dream, Musik Gewinnt Freunde and Kindisch. His warm, melodious approach has worked wonders on 'Ad Litem'. Tailoring the production down both in scope and tempo, YokoO has reshaped the track into a laid back, emotive piece which comes from the heart, as he describes "Sydney, early December 2015. A sunny day by Bondi beach, a broken heart desperately seeking understanding & healing, a desire for things to change, a pixie den, a light breeze blowing through the windows, hippies smoking weed around, 24 hours of immersion, a couple of swims and yoga classes in between . . . Et voila!"

The EP's second and also title cut 'Dreambox' is a spaced out journey which plays out over 12 magnificent minutes. Highlighted by cosmic themes and two oscillating builds, it's a deep space odyssey for the mind and feet. As Navar and Mononoid describe "An audio collision of reality & dream, which first seemed to be a true form of realism when the track was conceptualized, but when we keyed in a darker state of mind we slipped into another consciousness...it got us hypnotized! So we had to make a box where we could place the hypno-sphere's....but be aware that once this box is opened things will never be the same again!"

The release concludes with the appropriately titled 'Versoene'. A piece which was born out of musical frustration but resulted in a deep and magical vibe. The first of the three completed and the beginning of a strange and wonderful friendship. In the words of Eelko, Andy and Igor "An enthralling light came upon us and we knew what to do! There are hopeful transmissions running through this one, but where are they from? Moments of brightness with 'Versoene' brought diversity in many ways, it led us to a place of harmonic embrace, a moment where time was lifted and we moved forward into the future. "
